January 6, 2009 by Cam

Michael asked:

I am planning on getting the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi.I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this camera or if there is a better slr camera out there? I mainly want something that is easy to navigate because its my first time using a high quality camera.

I would suggest Canon Rebel XSi
    12.2-megapixel CMOS sensor
DIGIC III image processor provides fast, accurate image processing; improved Autofocus and framing rate
EOS Integrated Cleaning system, plus Dust Delete Data Detection in included software
    Live View Function
    ast 9-point AF system

I’ve “graduated” from a Pentax K-1000 (film) to a Pentax K-2000 (digital). I’m very pleased with it. I bought it through QVC after my wife pointed it out to me. The kit I bought came with 2 DAL lenses (18-55 mm and 50-200). I just took a look at the QVC website; they don’t have the kit, but they do offer the camera with the 18-55 lens for $564.96 plus S&H (http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.E203267.desc.Pentax-102MP-CCD-Digital-SLR-Camera-with-1855mm-Lens-Kit ).
It’s backwards compatible with older Pentax lenses (including a non-Pentax telephoto lens I own). There are accessories available for it, and I just recently ordered a P-TTL flash unit so I can do some more advanced photography. The pics it takes are 10.2 MP, which I am pleased with. One day, I’ll get a more advanced camera, but until then, I’ll stick with this one.

You won’t go wrong with a Canon dSLR. You won’t go wrong with a dSLR from Nikon or Pentax either. There will be no superior brand from these three companies. It is all a matter of preference, brand loyalty and salemanship that will decide the brand you choose. From entry-level to advanced models, they’re all basically the same with just upgrades in megapixels and other minor and trivial features.

I agree with the Canon Xsi, great camera for the money! Canon also has a greater variety, and better quality of lenses in my opinion.
